Il tuo vero valore

La febbre dell' enalotto fa capire che molti italiani del nuovo millennio credono nei soldi. Anziché vedere in essi un mezzo per scambiare il valore del proprio lavoro con ciò che non possono produrre misurano il proprio valore secondo quanti soldi riescono ad ammassare.

Ascolta le parole di un saggio:

C'è un male grave che io ho visto sotto il sole; delle ricchezze conservate dal loro possessore, per sua sventura.
Queste ricchezze vanno perdute per qualche avvenimento funesto; e se ha generato un figlio, questi resta senza nulla in mano. Ecclesiaste 5:13-14

Quando un giovane chiese a Gesù di intervenire per assicurargli la sua parte di eredità. Lui rispose:

Poi disse loro: «State attenti e guardatevi da ogni avarizia; perché non è dall'abbondanza dei beni che uno possiede, che egli ha la sua vita». - Luca 12:15

Altri cercano il loro valore nella propria identità etnica o familiare. Quante guerre vengono combattute ancora oggi perché un popolo si crede superiore ad un altro? Quanti litigi avvengono perché le due parti appartengono a famiglie diverse dove l'una è convinta di essere più importante dell'altra!

In un famoso discorso pronunciato ad Atene, la capitale intellettuale del mondo antico, Paolo da Tarso ricordò che tutte le nazioni hanno un'unica origine:

Egli ha tratto da uno solo tutte le nazioni degli uomini perché abitino su tutta la faccia della terra, avendo determinato le epoche loro assegnate, e i confini della loro abitazione, - Atti 17:26

quindi... nessun popolo può dirsi superiore ad un altro.

Secondo Ugo Foscolo. il famoso poeta dei Sepolcri, il tuo vero valore sta in quello che riesci a lasciare dietro di te: un capolavoro d'arte o qualche altro tipo di monumento.
In altre parole bisogna fare di tutto perché il rnondo si ricordi di noi. L'opera teatrale di Jean Paul Sartre, intitolata "A porte chiuse",  toglie quest'illusione. Sartre immagina che gli abitanti del luogo dei morti chiedano notizie ai nuovi arrivati riguardo a ciò che il rnondo ricorda di loro. Gli uni scoprono di essere stati completamente dimenticati. Gli altri di essere ricordati soprattutto per il male commesso, mentre del poco che avevano costruito non era rimasta traccia.

Dobbiamo concludere che siamo senza valore?
Che bisogna godersi la vita mentre si può, mangiando, bevendo, perché domani morremo?

NO!

Chi cerca il valore nei soldi, nelle proprie origini o in quello che riesce a costruire è motivato dalla profonda convinzione di avere valore. Ed ha ragione! Paolo, l'apostolo che ricordò agli ateniesi che avevano la stessa origine dei barbari disse pure che gli uomini sebbene dispersi su tutta la faccia della terra sono fatti per cercare Dio, il Creatore:

affinché cerchino Dio, se mai giungano a trovarlo, come a tastoni, benché egli non sia lontano da ciascuno di noi - Atti 17:27

Quel senso di nobiltà che ogni persona sente e cerca di esprimere attraverso un successo di qualche tipo non è un'illusione. Anzi dipende da due fatti importanti: gli esseri umani sono creati all'immagine di Dio e, nonostante tutto, sono l'oggetto del suo amore.

L'affannosa ricerca di come migliorare la nostra condizione è indice di una profonda consapevolezza che abbiamo perduto qualcosa. Infatti. a motivo del peccato di Adamo abbiamo perso Quasi tutto. Se non fosse per il fatto che Dio ci ama infinitamente. avremmo perso proprio tutto. Ma grazie al suo amore è possibile riscoprire il nostro vero valore. l'apostolo Pietro scrive:

Anche Cristo ha sofferto una volta per i peccati, lui giusto per gli ingiusti, per condurci a Dio. Fu messo a morte quanto alla carne, ma reso vivente quanto allo spirito - 1Pietro 3:18

Ecco perché Dio è pronto a perdonare ed accettare chiunque lo cerca con cuore sincero. La scoperta del tuo vero valore passa attraverso l'esperienza della grazia di Dio.

Nel nuovo cammino che Dio ti prospetta devi imparare a dipendere da Lui per fede. Troverai il tuo vero valore nell'essere un uomo nuovo che è creato a immagine di Dio:

Non mentite gli uni agli altri, perché vi siete spogliati dell'uomo vecchio con le sue opere e vi siete rivestiti del nuovo, che si va rinnovando in conoscenza a immagine di colui che l'ha creato.

Colossesi 3:9-10

Your true worth

Lotto fever would suggest that many Italians in the 21^st century have money as their key value. Instead of seeing in it a means to exchange the value of their work with what they cannot produce. They measure their value according to how much money they can manage to amass.

Listen to the words of a wise man:

I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners,

or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when they have children there is nothing left for them to inherit. Ecclesiastes 5: 13-14

When a young man asked Jesus to intervene to assure him his share of the inheritance, he replied:

 "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions."
 

Luke 12:15

Others try to find their worth in their ethnic group or in their family. How many wars are fought today because people believe themselves superior to another people? How many quarrels take place because the two sides belong to different families, and one side is believed to be more important than the other!

In a famous speech in Athens, the intellectual capital of the ancient world, Paul of Tarsus remembered that all nations have a single source:

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

Acts 17:26

then ... no people can be said to be superior to another.

According to Ugo Foscolo. the famous Italian poet, your true value is in what you can leave behind: a masterpiece of art or some other type of monument.
In other words we must do everything so that the world remember us.

The Play by Jean Paul Sartre, entitled "Behind closed doors" gets rid of such illusion. Sartre imagines that the inhabitants of the place of the dead ask the newcomers about what the world remembers of them. Most  of the inhabitants discover they have been completely forgotten, others are remembered above all for the wrongs they did but not a trace remains of the good they did. remains.
Must we conclude that we are worthless?
That we  have to enjoy life while we can, eating, drinking, for tomorrow we die?

NO!

The fact that people find their worth in money. in their origins or in what they can build is  motivated by the conviction of having inherent worth. And that's right! Paul, the apostle who reminded the Athenians that they had the same origin of the barbarians. also said that men. although scattered upon all the face of the earth are made to seek God, the Creator:

God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

 
- Acts 17:27

That sense of nobility that each person feels and tries to express in one way or another is not an illusion. Indeed it depends on two important facts:  Human beings are created in God's image and, despite everything, they are the object of his love.

The frantic search for ways to improve our condition is a sign of a deep awareness that we have lost something. Indeed., because of the sin of Adam we lost almost everything. If it were not for the fact that God loves us infinitely. we would have lost everything. But thanks to his love we can rediscover our true value. The apostle Peter wrote:

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit- 1 Peter 3:18

That's why God is ready to forgive and to accept anyone who seeks him with a sincere heart. The discovery of your true value (or worth) is related to experiencing God's grace.

In the new road that God promises, you must learn to depend on Him by faith. Find your real value in being a new man who is created in God's image:

Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices

Colossians 3: 9-10
